A website build has an initial scope, but the business keeps using it long after launch. Before comparing packages, ask what happens when the first included period ends. A clear answer should separate keeping the website available from improving it over time.
Understand the recurring essentials
Domain registration and hosting are usually recurring services. Depending on the chosen platform, there may also be software subscriptions, paid extensions, email delivery or other provider charges. A low initial build price does not tell you what those costs will be.
Ask for a written list of what is included initially, the duration of that inclusion, the renewal arrangement and any items paid directly to another company. For the Digital Pegas business website package, the current pricing section lists the first-year inclusion, renewal and optional care separately. Use that current information rather than assuming an old advert still describes the offer.
Maintenance is not the same as new development
Maintenance can cover specific technical tasks under an agreed plan. New pages, new integrations, a design refresh or a different customer workflow are development changes. Do not assume that a monthly support payment includes unlimited work unless the agreement clearly says so.
- Which updates are covered?
- How do you report a fault?
- Are content changes included, limited or quoted separately?
- Who handles third-party services if one of them changes?
At handover, ask which main texts, images and contact details you can edit yourself. This helps you distinguish everyday content management from changes that need a developer.
Keep business information current
Make a short review part of your normal business routine. Check the opening hours, services, contact routes and any displayed prices. Replace work examples when they no longer represent what you offer. An available website can still give customers the wrong information if nobody owns these checks.
Test the contact form after meaningful changes and verify that enquiries arrive in the correct place. Review any advertising destinations when changing a page URL. A campaign should not continue sending visitors to a removed service.
Ask about ownership and moving later
Keep a record of the domain owner, hosting arrangement and the accounts involved. Ask what would be handed over if you changed supplier, and whether any platform-specific export limitations apply. Agree a secure way to transfer access rather than collecting every password in an email chain.
The right package is one you understand before paying and can manage after launch. Ask us about running costs if you are comparing options. For an online shop or custom application, request a proposal specific to the platform and integrations rather than applying the business website package's renewal assumptions.
